Do I have the Right?

I%26#039;m poor. I work, my husband works, but we are still poor. B/c we both work and both try to make enough money to live and support our daughter, we can%26#039;t get food stamps because we make 20-100 too much a month. They don%26#039;t take into account car ins (which we can%26#039;t afford), health ins, credit card, student loan, or other %26quot;optional%26quot; bills. We get further in debt every month b/c we can%26#039;t make payments on these %26quot;optional bills%26quot; and its taking a toll on my mental well being having to answer the phone and tell all these places why I can%26#039;t pay everyday. I can%26#039;t go to the dr when I have a problem, I can%26#039;t go back to school to finish my last sem b/c my student loans are behind. I can%26#039;t pay for child care so I can work more hrs and nobody will help me with it til I%26#039;ve paid for it for 45 days. Don%26#039;t I have the right to get help if I%26#039;m trying to help myself? Why should I get more help if sit on my butt? Please e-mail your st and nat reps to tell them I have the right!

Do I have the Right?

I know where you%26#039;re coming from.Welfare, food stamps, disability,Unemployment Insurance, etc. All started with good intentions, but have now become programs which only benefit the lazy. When I was growing up,my Mom on occasion had to lie to get my family on access because she worked three hours a week to many to qualify. But every druggie family in town was able to get on the program no problem because they didn%26#039;t work any hours at all, even though their illnesses were self induced. The system is not good at all but don%26#039;t rely on the government to bail you out.They%26#039;ll actually screw you the first chance they get.You%26#039;ll have to think of something, even if it means living on baloney and top ramen for a while.I know its not a pleasant idea but it is something.

I wish I had an easy answer for you. Have you looked into WIC? They operate differently than the food stamp program. I don%26#039;t know if there are income limitations, but try giving them a call. They help with good, healthy food similar to foodstamps.

Do I have the Right?

I%26#039;m sorry but everything that you describe is not a right, I suggest taking local free classes on how to pay bills and save money. I did it and learned an enormous amount that I never knew- also changed our lifestyle a bit to make it easier to afford the regular stuff- its not easy I know because I am poor also but there are ways- you just have to keep trying to figure it out . The government will not solve your problems - only you can do that.

Do I have the Right?

they only thing to do is quit your job and get ON welfare... at least then u get health insurance

Hang in there. If you came from Mexico you would have been tutored how to make Penney below limits. Hope everyone gets help soon with basic health care, and all day kindergarten so that skill isn%26#039;t needed. Make very tight budget few years to get credit cards off your back.

Interesting bit of political haranguing there... I sympathize with you, but I have to be somewhat harsh: you have absolutely no right to my money. To my mind, government intervention should only be used as a last possible resort (in a perfect world, we wouldn%26#039;t need it at all). The best thing to do is to fix the problem yourself. Try reorganizing your budget so that you%26#039;re only spending money on things you absolutely need and cutting back in that field as much as possible, while putting the rest of it toward the debt; you and your husband could also try to find better-paying jobs. It won%26#039;t be an easy thing, and it%26#039;ll take a while, but it should correct the problem if you keep at it.
