My son will be three in may and wont start nursery until september. I currently work 10-3 mon to fri and pay a friend to look after him for me from tues-fri (his dad doesnt work mondays so he stays home). I cant afford nursery costs as the tax credit people decided last year that we earn too much for help with paid childcare - I dont know how they can have worked that out as it was always fine before and any mistake wasnt from our end, we definately do not have cash to spare even for saving purposes!
Does anybody have any ideas on how i can work from home to care for my son and still earn good money? I am struggling to pay my friend and starting to worry about what to do next. I used to work evenings for minimum wage but my partner is a chef so works split shifts so not possible. Help!!
Working from home with children?
I really feel for you as I have found myself in this situation before. You work just to pay for daycare. What a horrible cycle! I sat down one day and divided my money from my husbands just to see if it made sense for me to keep working and found that the amount of money I was spending on gas, daycare, lunch, and dinners out (I never had time to cook) was just about equal to the amount of money I was making at work.
Try this calculator to see if it is really worth the money for you to keep working outside the home

You might want to consider working from home but I would get started BEFORE I quit my job as with most legitimate companies it takes a while before you start making good money. With most of the legit companies you will make about $500 a month for about 20-25 hours of work. If you need a list of companies or more information about budgeting and balancing out work/home responsibilities just email me and let me know I would love to help you as much as possible as I have been in this same situation before and always wished there had been someone to help me. amyh2637@hotmail.com
