I have been getting tax credits for 2 years now, their computer was recently updated due to the new tax year etc, over easter, and they couldn%26#039;t get any of your info for you. My payment didn%26#039;t go into the bank as usual so when i phoned last week, and they managed to get into their system, they told me the computer had not set up a schedule of payments so they would have to refer it to the tax office to set up. This is the 3rd week now, they say it takes 7-10 days and if i haven%26#039;t heard anything they will have to refer it again. I said can%26#039;t you just phone them and they said there%26#039;s not a direct line to them. Can that be right? I get 鎷?41 per week from them so they are owing me over 鎷?00 now and I need the money as I am skint but no one seems to care.....they just told me it wasn%26#039;t a guarnateed income for exactly this reason. I feel like screaming. is there anything i can do.

I know exactly how you feel, i haven%26#039;t had my tax credits for the last 3 weeks. I rang up and spoke to 3 complete idiots who couldn%26#039;t see anything wrong/would pass it over to someone else/couldn%26#039;t do anything because it%26#039;s not their job, they just answer the phone! AArrgghhhh!

I rang a fourth time and she actually thought to check my claim, then sorted it straight away. They told me that line about referring it and not being able to speak to them as well. As i found out, my problem was easily sorted, it was just pot luck i managed to get through to someone capable of their job! I can%26#039;t believe they can do this and not understand how much it affects us, i could barely afford to feed myself! i was just thankful my son was away with his dad that week. Thankfully my money will be in my bank by monday, i am glad to hear you have sorted something out and hopefully we can get back to normal some time soon.

My advice if this ever happens again and the moron at the end of the phone doesn%26#039;t know what to do, ask them to enquire with their line manager as they are more likely to be able to resolve it or just ask to speak to someone else. I have gathered that most of the people on the helpline aren%26#039;t trained to a great degree and therefore tend to try and pass the buck rather than try to deal with an issue. Also, don%26#039;t waste your time going into the local revenues office either - they just offer you a phone to ring the helpline!

I will definitely be making a complaint as well, the service is despicable! I am just glad i%26#039;ve got a good boss who offered me an advance on my wages, others might not be so lucky though and i dread to think how they would get through upto a month without any money or explanation.

Theres not much you can do apart from keep calling them. the tax credits office has made multiple mistakes since being put in place. From what I can gather people have been over paid so to get it back they just stop the payments. It sounds like your case is different. I would get back to them and ask them again what exactly they are doing. It may be an idea to contact the tax office.

I am unsure though why there computer system had not set up scheduled payments. check your last latter for the awards and ask them what they have on theres and try and match it to see if you have been overpair. if you have they should pay you and reduce the amount.

i had benefit stopped cause someone was claiming tax credit using my NI number, they would not believe i was me, it got sorted eventually, try citizens advice bureau, good luck

Go to your local tax office and claim an emergency payment, it will help to tide you over til they get their fingers out of their nether regions. In the meantime, just keep phoning them and phoning them, if you still have no joy, go talk to someone in the CAB and ask them to intervene on your behalf.

Good luck, the IR and useless and have no thought to us that rely on our tax credits.

The best thing for you to do in this instance is telephone 0845 300 3900, ask the operator on the other end to check your award and see if the schedule has been set up yet and what date the payments would resume. If the operator advises you that the computer is still screwed, ask nay demand to speak to a manager. Get the managers name. Advise the manager the problems you have and the number of times you have phoned to put this right.

Ask the manager to give you the address of your nearest complaints team and then advise the manager that if payments are not in your bank within 24 hours that you will complain, and claim compensation for non-payment of a due award. Also ask for a copy of the code of practice COP1 how to complain. (see link below)

Write your letter of complaint, they MUSTrespond to that letter within 15 days.

In the meantime go to your local tax office, and ask for an emergency payment to be made to you. When you go to the local tax office take your latest award notice.

The person on the other end of the phone, should check for a new award, then for a payment schedule. If its not there, they should send off a referral to get your payments put in place.

It might be luck, who you get on the other end of the phone though.

The advisor is encouraged to have the call completed in about four minutes! This may explain why some advisors may just pass the buck, without actually doing anything.
